A fan heater (or blower heater, or heater fan) is the quickest way to warm a whole closed room. It blows air over a hot element and spreads the warmth everywhere — under the quilt, at the cupboard, at the door. Here are current prices and how to choose.

How a thermostat saves electricity
A 2,000 W heater uses 2 units an hour while the element is on. With the thermostat set, it switches off when the room reaches your temperature and back on when it cools — so over an evening it may only heat for part of the time. That is why a thermostat is the single most important feature on a fan heater.
Choosing by room size
- Up to 80 sq ft: a 400–500 W heater such as the Maxx MX-112 or Handy Heater.
- 80–150 sq ft: a 2,000 W heater such as the 2-speed fan heater or TRIMUX.
- 150 sq ft +: a 2,200 W ceramic tower or the Seco wall heater.
Fan heater vs ceramic heater
A ceramic heater is a fan heater with a ceramic (PTC) element instead of a wire coil. It heats fast, does not glow red and limits its own temperature — often with extras like remotes and timers. Standard fan heaters are cheaper and simpler.
Safety tips
- A 2,000 W heater needs a proper wall socket — never a multi-plug.
- Keep 1 metre of space in front of the outlet.
- Look for overheat protection and a thermal fuse.
- Warm the room before sleeping, then switch off.
