Blower heaters all look alike on a marketplace page, but the details make a big difference to comfort, safety and your bill. Check these seven things before you buy.
The 7-point checklist
- Wattage for your room. About 10 W per sq ft in a closed room. A 10×12 ft bedroom needs roughly 1,200–1,500 W; 2,000 W gives headroom on very cold nights.
- Two heat settings. 1,000/2,000 W (or 250/500 W on small models) lets you drop the power once the room is warm.
- A real thermostat. The dial that switches the heater off at your chosen temperature — the biggest power-saver.
- Overheat protection and a thermal fuse. Both should be on the spec list.
- Tip-over switch. Important with children or pets.
- Cool mode. A fan for summer is a nice bonus.
- Your socket. Plan a wall socket for it — cheap multi-plugs melt at 2,000 W.

Red flags
- No wattage on the listing, or "3,000 W" from a tiny body.
- No mention of overheat protection.
- "Zero electricity" or "70% saving" claims.
- A plug that feels loose in a normal socket.
Using it well
Warm the room on high with the door closed, then turn the thermostat back until it clicks. Switch off when you sleep, or use a model with a timer. More on bills in how much electricity does a heater use?
