Halogen (sun) heaters are among the most-used heaters in Pakistan, and they are safe when used sensibly. Here are the common worries — and simple answers.
Common questions
| Worry | Short answer | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Is the bright glow bad for eyes? | Do not stare into it | Sit to the side, 1–1.5 m away |
| Does it dry the skin? | It can, if very close for long | Keep distance; moisturise |
| Does it use oxygen? | No — nothing burns | Air the room now and then for comfort |
| Is it safe with children? | The grill gets hot | Supervise; consider a wall model |
| Can I sleep with it on? | Not recommended | Switch off before sleeping |
How to use a halogen heater safely
- Place it on a flat, hard floor, about 1–1.5 metres from where you sit.
- Point it at your body, not your face.
- Keep it 1 metre from curtains, bedding and clothes.
- Plug it into a wall socket, not a multi-plug.
- Switch it off when you sleep or leave the room.
Extra care with children and the elderly
- Never leave small children alone with any heater.
- A wall-bracket sun heater keeps the hot part out of reach.
- Elderly people with less feeling in the legs should not sit very close.
