Most fan heaters and every oil radiator have a thermostat dial. Many people leave it on maximum all the time — and pay for it. Set properly, it keeps the room comfortable while the heater rests.
What the thermostat does
It senses the air temperature. When the room reaches the level you set, it switches the heating element off; when the room cools, it switches it back on. The fan or radiator keeps the warmth moving in between.
How to set it (the click method)
- Close the door and switch the heater on high with the thermostat on maximum.
- Wait until the room feels comfortable.
- Slowly turn the thermostat down until you hear a click and the heating stops.
- Leave it there — the heater will now hold that temperature by itself.
- On the next cold day, nudge it up slightly if needed.
How much can it save?
| Heater | Without thermostat (4 h) | With thermostat (approx.) |
|---|---|---|
| 2,000 W fan heater | 8 units | 3–5 units |
| 2,200 W oil radiator | 8.8 units | 3–5 units |
Real savings depend on the room, insulation and weather.
